» Why are you humble over the sucess of 'Maalai neram' ?
As a matter of success, I see it more as a matter of luck. I can't accept its success as I didn't realize its a success till now. Moreover that was the time when Tamil short films had a big craze around in Facebook and Youtube. So may be it wouldn't have not been such a success if it is released now. Fortunately, it was timed perfectly.

No one can be credited in person. Its a team effort. But without Anbu Stalin anna (cinematographer) and Preethi Kanthan(production designer), it wouldn't have been fabricated like it is now. For a short film, fund is the biggest asset. The fund for the film came from Krishna anna and he is the starting point of the entire progress. | Krishna was tailor made for the role and for Saranya, I had to tailor her to fit the bill. |
It was fun casting them and yes..similarly without their on-screen presence..so called reach would have taken a different dimension.
» Were your parents supportive for your opt to study Viscom ?
NO
NO
My dad hasn't supported me (even 2 days back I was scolded for choosing this field) and my mother always do support. When I decided to become a director I had 2 reasons. One is to prove true my mom's true belief on me and the other is to prove false my dad's false belief on me.
" May be Loyola would be better for Viscom but when it comes to MCC, that's how you become a Real Man. "
» Your inspiration for film making..
Director P.C.Sriram, Director Selvaraghavan, Director Manivannan, Director Suresh Krishna, Director Bhagyaraj, a film by Bharathiraja and it goes on.
» Why haven't you opted Loyola for Viscom ?
Before the entrance for Loyola was held, I got the seat at MCC. To note I didn't finish my degree yet and I have 14 arrears left. May be Loyola would be better for Viscom but when it comes to MCC, that's how you become a Real Man. Not to forget, A.R.Rahman stepped into the same college.

» Do you feel that ' Maalai neram ' over rides 'Thamizhchelvi Maindhan' ?
May be in the count of views really but 'Thamizhchelvi Maindhan' is a better
May be in the count of views really but 'Thamizhchelvi Maindhan' is a better
film when compared to 'Maalai Neram'. But I have never considered the former part of views. As a matter of fact, every film has its own life and there is no point in comparing one film with other. Not even the films of one director with that of the other. Its not a running race. One may be good at running and other in long jump but we practise and execute it in the same ground.
» How Mr.Thiyagarajakumar Ramaswamy was casted in, did he accept ?
He hesitated at first but I convinced him. That character demanded his face and he was in.
» Why foul words were uncensored ?
Regarding 'foul' or 'bad' words, we made it very intentionally. I had to break some media conventions in this film. To this matter of question, this film didn't have any establishment shot. As an example, even the house was not shown properly, also the geography of the play whether it was perambur or royapuram or elsewhere. This would have easily formed the backbone of the Protaganist who finds 50K is a hard target to attain. Such visual establishments were skipped purposely and thereby I had to go with the force in the language of the character to reveal these background details. This blame was predicted and I decided to use it in a positive way and in that way we covered up the other mistakes in the film which was again pre-planned.
" .. how much torture Saranya had to face from me. "

» A source said that you were embarrassed during a scene explanation ?
Nothing like that. I don't want to be shy in explaining my scene to a artist. Also Saranya is a friend of mine and that made works easy having a good rapport throughout. In fact, if you question her you'll come to know how much torture she had to face from me. Its in two ways. Even I was tortured by her, had to go for 30 to 40 takes for a shot and the biggest part is Krishna had to stand hours together in the frame because of her to get the shot right. She had the perseverance to wait till the shot is ok. Anyways she finished the crying shot in a single take and she is good at it.
» In 'Thamizhchelvi Maindhan'. the hero had to scould Mr.Thiyagarajakumar as "bastard" .. How come..
That's the scene. We discussed it face to face and he had nothing to say about it. Even he knows its a scene after all.

" Fund..Fund..Fund..Fund.. You find every problem in it and I am not an exception. "
» When will "Super star" be releasing.. Any updates ?
The title itself made us work hard towards the project. Infact that is the only short film script which we worked for 3 months. The reason for holding it back is because of the fund as I told earlier. It has a scene involving 300 to 400 people who have to conditionally act. I was unable to get these resources and was not ready to compromise with it either. Also the story is set back in 2004 during the time of 'Chandramukhi' release. Everything has changed now..bus..dress..and lot more.. Had to keep an eye on everything. That's why I opted to withhold it rather than making it awfully. But till date its one of the best scripts I have ever worked.
» Your view about "crap" short films ?
I'm not blunt or sharp either.. Just sharpening the blunt edges.. And I do respect the so called "crap" short films. That is the point where my journey started. We are born to grow and in our growth we will realize that we go one step better than the previous. I believe that we can do better than the previous. Its goes with the saying of writer Sujatha "century adikanum naalum single la irunthu dhan aarambikanum"

"the only 2 girl fans of me." I haven't asked or even they haven't asked about acting. But I am sure if they are behind the camera..gethu pannuvanga.(they would excel) They have much better and advanced taste than me towards artistic values. Not to forget, my mom is one of the main reasons behind this. She has acted in nun's role dubbed by someone else and that's where it went wrong. | " eat kothuparota after the cake " Life's first Birthday cake cutting.. I was unable to hold the knife properly. So Rajkumar the key reason behind it, helped me cutting the cake. In fact the day so happened because of his clear picture. Thanks to my brothers. I would like to advice you on a thing..if you want a real birthday blast, eat kothuparota after the cake. 'Mass+Class a irukum.' |

Mr.Moses Rajkumar, because of him I chose Viscom. Mr.Krishna, where I learnt the basics of cinema and more. Mr.Ashiq, its because of him I always believe I am strong in visuals. He taught me what is framing. My Team: Rajkumar, Karthik, Ravi Varma, Bharath, Balaji. We are actually happening in our own way. And someone out there in the top of India dealing with the department of Roses and Romance.

Short film has become a motherless child. Its always nice to find that mothers are out there like CDTV. If short films are the gateway to mainstream then we need someone to open the gate and you guys never mind to do that. Thank you very much.
