Scriptwriter, Poet, Actor, Director- Rohit Shenoy
[He has recently won the 'Channel V's Directors Cut', for his movie 'Sketch of Fate.']
Junk Funk has created a couple of movies in the past 2 years wherein Rohit Shenoy happens to be the force behind the production house & has an enviable slate on hand. Rohit, a BMMite of S. K. Somaiya is the creative strength & is the unsung hero who multi- tasks.
Here, this happy go lucky chap shares his story of triumph…
Q) Why did you choose BMM?
> I'm a creative person. I like seeing things through different perception or rather through my own vision:) & that’s what got my interest into film making, so I thought let BMM be my first step for it.. Even though my mum was against it, as she wanted me to be an engineer but then I thought of taking BMM & making movies & I believe making movies is far better than getting KT's in engineering :)

Q) What took your interest in film making?
> I like 2 kinds of movies. One which has sarcasm & the other realistic. I believe movies should not only be made for profit or for gaining fame but also for conveying message to the society.
Q) What lead to the formation of Junk Funk Production?
> It was a group of 6 friends. We had money, equipments, concepts & thoughts. So we were like why don't we put all of these things together & give it a name :) all agreed & Junk Funk was born.
Q) Which was your 1st movie?
> It was Bread of Happiness. The story revolves around the life of a poor guy & how he manages to gift his sister bread on her birthday also including a conversation with a rich girl. It’s a tale of life of the rich & the poor which is very realistic…
Q) Your other movies?
> *"Nightmare"- It was quite a nightmare :) as it had some technical errors. It was realistic & it had some elements of suspense, humor & was youth centric.
*"Sketch of Fate"- Another realistic movie for which my production house won the Directors Cut, as against Xaviers, Jai Hind… Its the story of a girl who is very unhappy with life & so she plans on a suicide but then a rag picker finds a drawing book thrown away by this girl & unknowing how these two people meet & how life takes a turn after it is shown..
*"They are Left, I am Right"- This was a realistic cum commercial. The story of a youth as how against his parent’s wish of handling the family business he lands up being a successful person on his own capabilities.
Q) How did you feel after winning the Channel V's Directors Cut?
> Felt really proud of myself & for the production house. We got a lot of experience. I got to know as to where I was getting wrong & how I could make up for it. I felt really encouraged & I would thank my team members for beleiving me.
Q) How does it feel to be an award winning director at such a young age?
> I am a director who was so not meant to be a director. I was made the director because luckily I had a vision & my team mates had faith in me... so, the feelings hard to put into words.
Q) Who were your helping hands?
> All my Junk Funk members & friends & my family has contributed in one way or the other.. I don't have any equipment required to make a movie, neither a camera nor a computer. All I have is the faith in me & my vision.
Q) Do you think of becoming a big movie director?
> I really don't aim at becoming a director. I'm a chameleon; I do scriptwriting, poems, directing, acting, song writing & I'm also a band member of GRASS. So there are variations of me. I believe making movies is not a 9 to 5 business. Making movies can get you a career but having it as a profession is a feel of pride but I don't think I'll take it as a career. I make movies for fun. I enjoy making movies. I'm a carefree person but a true believer of fate & I believe that if I got to be a director, fate will lead me.
Q) What advice do you have for the upcoming young directors?
> Be a carefree person, enjoy life, be a master of one & jack of none & the most important believe in yourself & then you don't have to go to success but success will come to you:)
